Sandburg Men’s Golf Opens Spring Schedule With 2nd-Place Finish

The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team started its spring season with a second-place finish Tuesday in an Arrowhead Conference meet hosted by Sauk Valley at Deer Valley Golf Club.
The Chargers’ Grant Campbell (Earlville, Ill./Earlville) and Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) each shot a 5-over-par 76 to tie for fourth place individually. Black Hawk’s Peyton Perez took medalist honors with a 3-over 74.
Sandburg finished at 312 as a team, just three shots back of first-place Illinois Valley. The Chargers finished ahead of Black Hawk (323), Highland (333) and Sauk Valley (343).
Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) shot a 79 for Sandburg to finish 10th overall, and Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) rounded out the Chargers’ score with an 81. Calvin Peterson (Williamsfield, Ill./Williamsfield) carded an 89 and Cooper Beck (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) had an 86 that didn’t count toward Sandburg’s total.
